Hi Everyone,
Last week I talked about needing Commitment, Discipline and Courage. This week I’m going to be talking about how you can maintain a healthy balance of all three.
If you have more courage than discipline, that is not a good thing. If you have more commitment and discipline that’s not a good thing either. That’s why you need an equal balance of all of three.
Prior to me realizing the difference in those three goals, I used to say or make statements like, “starting Monday I’m going to workout and eat right.” Then someone would say, “that’s great O’Neal, how are you going to do it?” I would reply, “I don’t know, I’m just going to start.”
That’s an example of having commitment but without discipline or structure. I was setting myself up for failure.
The first distraction that came along, I would find a reason to stop meeting my goals. Whether it was a bad day at work, stress with the kids, forgetting my healthy lunch at home, being stressed out about my relationship or finances, all became distractions that prevented me from meeting my health expectations.
Those different situations can cause you to go off course from your plans or commitments. That’s why it’s important for us to be disciplined and make several back up plans.
It’s not a matter of, if something is going to happen, it is a matter of WHEN something will happen.
The only punch that ever knocks a boxer out is the punch he doesn’t see coming.
It’s the same story with all of us being moved off course from our journey towards good health.
We need to make the tough decisions and be responsible for our actions because sometimes our actions, through no fault of our own, make us weak.
So let’s stay strong and if we find moments where we can’t, let’s get right back on course.
It’s that time again my friends, I hear my NuStep calling me! In the great words of Marvin Gay, “Let’s Get It On.”
Please tune in next week, I’m going to a Big Family Reunion in Seattle Washington on Wednesday.
This weeks O’Nealism: Sometimes it’s ok, not to be ok. There is a big difference between transparency and vulnerability.
Stay Healthy My Friends,
