World Parkinson’s Day
Did you know that nearly one million individuals in the United States are living with Parkinson’s Disease, a neurodegenerative disorder? The number continues to grow as 90,000 people are diagnosed each year. Data from studies have shown the value of aerobic exercise to be an integral component in treating Parkinson’s Disease.
NuStep partnered with the National Institute for Fitness and Sport (NIFS) to provide a nationwide, free for senior living communities on World Parkinson’s Day, Tuesday, April 11. Participating communities had the opportunity to win a NuStep T6 recumbent cross trainer.
The goal was to bring awareness to the benefits of exercise and hit one million steps on a NuStep recumbent cross trainer, in honor of the one million individuals living with Parkinson’s disease. With 150+ participating communities throughout the country, the goal was significantly surpassed by reaching 3.8 million total steps. That is equivalent to driving from Detroit, Michigan to Salt Lake City, Utah! Check out the NIFS event recap video.
Thank you to all who participated, we have enjoyed seeing you stay active on the NuStep. A special thank you goes to the National Institute for Fitness and Sport (NIFS) team for all their efforts on this successful event. We look forward to next year!
