Using NuStep for Rehabilitation: Community Stories

Rehabilitating after an injury or illness, or to manage chronic pain, is a challenging journey that requires the right tools to regain strength and mobility. At NuStep, we’re gratified to know our products are a part of the recovery process for many of our users. And we’re happy to share the inspiring stories of individuals who have used the NuStep in their journey

Learning to Walk Again with NuStep.

Sebastien Bellin shares the story of his remarkable recovery from injuries sustained in the 2016 terrorist bombing at the Brussels Airport in Belgium. The former pro basketball player suffered extensive damage to his hip and both legs and the odds of walking again were stacked against him. Sebastien defied those odds and took his first steps just four months after the attack. Hear how the NuStep helped change the course of his recovery (and his life).

“You really need to take a close look at NuStep.”

Hans Schuler had a variety of health issues, including two knee replacements, that made it very difficult to get the heart-healthy exercise he needed. When he sought help from Dr. Eagle at the University of Michigan Health System, he discovered the NuStep and changed his life to achieve optimal health.

“This is the best machine I’ve ever used.”

My introduction to the NuStep came after hip surgery in 2014. During physical therapy, the therapist put me on the NuStep T4r. I was impressed with the lack of pain and discomfort as compared to using a bike or treadmill and knew at that instant I would buy one of these machines.

In 2015, after my physical therapy was over, I purchased a NuStep T4r. At the time, I weighed 291 pounds. Today, I’m 235 pounds and still losing weight. My goal weight is 200 pounds and I will easily meet or surpass that goal with the NuStep! As a Type 2 Diabetic, I’m maintaining my sugar levels and A-1C level perfectly. My cholesterol has dropped to normal numbers with exercise and medical management.

I exercise on the NuStep 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week and feel 100% better. This machine is the best I’ve ever used, and I’ll never be without one in my house. I think it is the best kept secret in the physical therapy and physical fitness industry. Time to Let the Secret Out!

“It has changed my life.”

I have suffered with avascular necrosis for over 15 years and have had several big surgeries and live with constant pain.  I used one of these machines at my physical therapist and it was the first time that I have been able to exercise without pain. It is the best exercise machine I have ever used that did not hurt me.  I know that exercise would make my life better.  It has changed my life.

Thank you, Gloria.

“I’ve cut my PT bill in half.”

Hi Dick,

Just a quick written note to tell you how I appreciate your product and financing.

As a recovering stroke patient I could only generate so much cardio walking at my pace. I used the NuStep at physical therapy (Back In Action, Tamarac, FL), so I knew the product and wanted to find a used one. My therapist warned “Good luck. They’re snapped up fast – usually by other therapists!”

I visited your web site to get ideas, maybe refurbished units, and lo and behold saw the great financing which made it very doable. Actually now, with my therapist’s blessing, I’ve cut my PT bill in half – used to be $250 a month (going twice a week) now $122 a month (my NuStep payment), and check-in with my PT every 90 days.

I also needed NuStep to work toward by final 10 pound reduction on Weight Watchers. Dropped 30, but the last 10 is hardest, almost made NuStep mandatory. And I am determined to reach 200. I’m now at 205.

“Never give up. Never give up. Never give up.”

Following a double knee replacement, Gerry Prince developed a staph infection that ravaged his body and left him in a wheelchair. Although doctors said he would never walk again, Gerry was determined to make the best of it so he began exercising to strengthen his upper body at a senior center in his community.

He noticed the NuStep recumbent cross trainer and realized that with the NuStep, he could use his arms to move his legs. After exercising on the NuStep regularly for several months, Gerry was able to move his legs on his own. His doctors were astounded and sent him to three months of intense therapy to maximize the gains he was experiencing. Today, Gerry uses a walker and continues to work hard towards his goal of walking independently once again.

Watch Gerry’s inspirational story to learn why he considers his recovery a miracle.

“We feel confident to know they can do it on their own.”

Amy Preston at the Michigan Heart and Cardiovascular Institute is focused on helping patients in cardiac rehab regain their health, confidence and independence. One of the most important tools she uses is the NuStep recumbent cross trainer.

Amy must set goals with every patient that comes through the door. With the NuStep, she is able to start patients on a resistance level and speed that works for them and allows them to see real, quantifiable progress over time.

Michigan Heart has had four NuSteps in their facility at all times since 1994. In addition to helping their patients, they love that the NuStep is easy to maintain and built to be durable and reliable. Watch the video above to hear more from Amy Preston.

“I am so happy to have found this fun solution.”

Following kidney surgery I went to physical therapy. To warm up…we’d workout on a NuStep T4r for 15 minutes. It wasn’t long before I realized that my pain level was reduced on PT days. I started to experiment on non-PT days, working out on the NuStep for 30 minutes. Most of my pain was gone throughout the day. This was exciting! Having only one kidney, I’m not supposed to use analgesics.

It was a big expense, more than the cars we buy. I’ve (not) been a big fan of exercise equipment that ends up being used as a hanger and the only exercise it produced was for my husband as he relocated each device. It was an act of faith on both our parts to take the leap and purchase the NuStep. There have been very few days (less than 6 and only if I’m very sick) that I haven’t spent at least 30 minutes on the NuStep. I am so happy to have found this fun solution.
